Book Summary of “Safal Jiwan” – Dr. Yogi Vikashananda

Here’s the summary of the book – “Safal Jiwan” from Dr. Yogi Vikashananda.

Chapter 1 – Art of Thinking

If you want to be happy, set a goal that commands your thought, liberates your energy and inspires your hope. – Andrew Carnegie

Shayari:

आजमे जहाँ हुँ, कल कोही और था
यभी एक दौर हे, वो भि एक दौर था ।

Lord Ganesh has 3 wives – Ridhi, Sidhi and Budhi. They are the indicator for the wealth, spiritual satisfaction and the usage of the brain respectively.

No matter how detrimental your situation might be, there’s always a positive side of it.

Generally, every thoughts and answers are statements and not the question.

When you dream big, your problem starts to become small.

Most of the people don’t dream big and aim high – hence they are missing out the opportunities that life will bring to them.

Everything has a science behind it – there’s a science of being successful as well. When you start to learn the science behind the success, you’ll soon attracting success in your life. Or else, you’ll attract the opposite – that’s the science.

In short:

First, have a big dream (or call it ambition) and then bring that to the imagination – visualize yourself already having achieved the goal.

… and then immediately start taking action with your newfound mantra.

Chapter 2 – Art of Observation

The ability to observe without evaluating is the highest form of intelligence. – J Krishnamurti

People tend to love their own culture, language and religion more – which is not because the one is better than other. The reason is because we observe our culture more than any other – hence we tend to like it.

In this world, you’ll find more people who learn through observation.

Winners focus on their ambitions.

Focus on something you can’t change or something which is out of your control and you’ll invite the mental disease in your life.

Unsuccessful people build habit which has no usage in life – they stick to these habits — hence unsuccessful. On the contrary, successful people do not focus on something that’s out of their control – they invest their time in something they love to do and then develop themselves in that area.

Chapter 3 – Art of Listening

Most people do not listen with the intent to understand, they listen with the intent to reply. – Stephen R. Covey

The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn’t said.

Art of listening is the most feasible way to make people clever. This does not just mean to listen with the complete focus – it also means that not to play any thoughts in your mind while listening to others.

Hearing: taking the words, hearing the sound.

Listening: understand the intent behind the words – the meaning behind the words.

जब जब मनमा नकारत्मक भाब तरङित हुन्छ, तब मान्छेले ब्एबस्थामा पनि बेथिती देख्न थालछ ।

Those people who keep on complaining will never be successful. If you want to be successful, then develop a habit of speaking less, and listening more. When you don’t listen to the other person, they feel ignored. In this case, you are de facto unsuccessful.

Even if the other person says the wrong thing, don’t judge them wrong. It’s not your work to understand them, it’s your job to find the intention behind it – which can never be wrong.

Chapter 4 – Art of Questioning

The man who asks question is a fool for a minute. The man who does not ask is a fool for life. – Confusius

A Brief Guide to Public Speaking in Nepal (Updated 2019)

If I am able to influence 1 person, s/he can be my client or my customer. How about influencing the mass?

Great. Isn’t it?

Now, it is one of the biggest myths that people fear public speaking more than they fear death. For me, it is certainly not true because I have never feared to speak in front of the mass.

In fact, I get more energy to speak seeing the people in front of me.

Maybe because I feel that I am expressing something that’s within me, which I cannot do in front of the computer.

Public Speaking is more of an art than it is science. The way someone puts his/her thoughts completely differs from one another.

Priyanka Chopra on Public Speaking

Let me quote Priyanka Chopra, one of the leading Bollywood Actresses – “There is only one you because there is no one like you.”

Nature is creative enough to make every one of us unique. Every one of us has a different style of speaking, our own way of persuading people. Even our sense of humor differs from one another. We need to accept that not everyone is Jim Carrey.

Before I share my experience of how I got into public speaking and provide you few pieces of advice to get better as a speaker, let’s know what public speaking is.

What is public speaking?

It is speaking in front of the public, right?

Yeah. That’s true. But the story doesn’t end here.

Public speaking is more about influencing people through the words. And, that’s what makes it different from other forms of expressions like essay writing.

I know. I know. Our speech needs to fulfill other jobs than influencing as well. For instance, to informwhat you have researched or to entertain the audience.

However, the most important part of the public speech is “influence”. Because your speech is not for you, it’s for your audience.

The truth is that “Your speech has to appeal to the audience”. Every word that you utter, your movement, hand gestures or your topic has to appeal to your audience. At the end of the day, it is them who will decide if it was even worth their time.

Why is public speaking important for me?

Once upon a time, I came up with a video on youtube that said: “The Speech That Made Obama President”. I recommend every one to watch this video at least once.

“The Speech that made Obama President”

Immediately after watching the video, I began to wonder – “Is it speech what makes a president?” Or his experience.

As someone digs deeper into this subject, he or she knows it better that influence that I can make in front of matters in my career, no matter what profession I choose to be in.

This speech won Obama the votes that were crucial to make him the president. Maybe you don’t want votes. But at some point in your life, you have to win the hearts of the people.

That’s what makes us human. Unlike any creatures in this world, we are able to influence other’s decision through our words.

What makes a great speech?

A great speech is the one which does its job well.

If the audience gets what you are trying to say and is convinced that your speech was worth their time, then your job is done as a speaker.

Nevertheless, here are few important points to note if want your speech to be great:

  • Focus on your content, mannerism comes next. Wherever focus goes, energy flows. Focus your energy on crafting the great content.
  • Be audience-centric, not speaker-centric.
  • Show the audience that you are confident about the topic.
  • Simplicity wins. Practice the art of simplicity.
  • Engage the audience so that the audience does not get bored.

Of course, there are many factors to consider while crafting a speech. The list goes on and on and you get better with practice.

How to influence the Mass?

Do you like watching movies? I love south Indian movies. Here’s the harsh truth – “These movies have influenced me and I am not alone”

How do they do this? One word – “Story”.

No one likes to listen to lectures, but everyone loves stories. That’s how our brain is structured. When someone recites their story, our brain cells become more receptive and we begin to relate it to ourselves.

That’s the reason Steve Jobs, founder of Apple Inc. started his commencement speech like this:

“Today, I would like to tell three stories from my life. That’s it. No big deal. Just 3 stories.”

Almost everyone today agrees that no commencement in the history of the world has such grace than the one from Steve Jobs.

Imagine how many people Steve was able to influence form 1 single speech. This is the power of storytelling.

Now that you understand – A story well presented helps you influence your audience more than anything. The only question that remains is “How do you present a story well?

Let’s get back to the basics – Every speech should appeal to the audience. The more they are able to relate it at a personal level, the higher the influence you will have on them.

This is one of the reasons Barack Obama was able to win the heart of the millions of people. No one likes to listen to a president, but everyone loves to listen to a normal citizen. And, he convinced citizens of America the same thing with the power of his story and examples.

My Personal Story – How I got into Public Speaking?

Two years back, I joined a public speaking club in my town named “Smart Club”. Please don’t be afraid of the word – Smart.

Since then, I have been completely transformed not just as a speaker, but as a person.

I did not have any vision of being a public speaker back then. I just joined the club to learn new that would impact me. Slowly I began to become involved in speaking activities.

The more I spoke, the more I loved me and appreciated me as a person.

The first speech that I delivered was on the topic “Whether or not to promote investment in Space Exploration”.  I did not win back then, but the comments that I got from my friends were really inspiring. Everyone seemed to like the way I speak, my confidence and content in the speech as well.

This very fact motivated me to participate more in the club and take more roles like an impromptu speaker.

My weakness at the time:

Although no one noticed it, I had a few weaknesses in my speeches. One of which was “the lack of structure”. Since I used to take the more impromptu roles, it was difficult for me to structure my content in 10-15 seconds that I got.

When it is a prepared speech, the structure is not much of a problem. It seems to be a problem for an impromptu speech. One solution for this is to think of three points and describe these in details and not to deviate from these points.

Getting Rid of Fear during Speech

It is “internal game”.

Public Speaking in Kathmandu, Nepal

There is not a single technique or exercise to get rid of this kind of fear.

Here’s my take on it – “If you want to get rid of fear, then you have to dive deep and know what causes fear within you.”

Deep deep down, far far in. Fear is all about chemicals within a body. When you start being comfortable in front of the mass, your body starts to release happy chemicals like Endorphins. That’s why I say it’s an internal game, not an external one.

Why do people become afraid in front of the mass? Acceptance.

We have not simply accepted ourselves the way we are. The day we accept ourselves the way we are, there is no power in the world that can stop you from being a better speaker.

My personal suggestion

There is nothing to lose and everything to give when it comes to public speaking.

So, speak with confidence, speak as if you are the expert in the field.

I like this quote very much – “Everyone has that heart of the lion. Let that lion’s heart scream out of you.”

Everyone gets better and better with practice. All the best on your journey. If you have some experiences regarding public speaking, please share it in the comment section below. 👇

7 Inspirational Quotes From Dr. Yogi Vikashananda

Whenever I think of the word “philosopher”, the picture that comes the first in mind is “Dr. Yogi Vikashananda”

He is the person behind the Manokranti Movement.

Manokranti, as they say it is the “revolution of the mind”. In Nepali, “Man” means the mind and “kranti” means the revolution. Hence, the meaning of the movement in short is to create revolution in your life with the power of the mind.

Manokranti has launched a myriad of programs across the country with the slogan:

“संसारलाई बदल्नु छ, सुरु आँफै बाट गर्नु छ”

… which basically means – “Let’s change ourselves to change the world”

manokranti movement symbol

Who is Dr. Yogi Vikashananda?

Dr. Yogi Vikashananda is a spiritual leader from Nepal. According to him, the inner world and inner peace is the ultimate goal of life – because everything we interact in the external world changes (nothing remains the constant) while inner peace is something every one will seek at a certain point in their life.

Many people know him with his trait of unique laugh.

He has this ability of transforming the mass with his unique aura of presence. He can make them laugh, make them cry and ultimately help everyone transform themselves from within.

… that’s what a spiritual leader should do.

Motivational Quotes (in Nepali)

Here are few of the inspirational quotes from him, which will certainly help you find your purpose in life and be motivated every moment to achieve your ambition:

बहादुर त्यो होइन जो डराउँदैन, बहादुर त्यो हो जो डरका बाबजुद पनि अघि बढ्न सक्छ ।

Meaning:

Fearless is not the one who is afraid – it’s the one who acts in spite of the fear s/he has.

Everyone has some sorts of fear – whether it be the fear of death or fear of losing something. However, that should not stop a fearless person to start moving towards your goals. This is how we win over the fear and become fearless.

गरीब त्यो होइन जो बिछ्योउना किन्न सक्दैन,
गरीब त्यो हो जो ठीक सँग सुत्न सक्दैन ।

Meaning:

A poor person is not the one who cannot afford the mattress, s/he is the one who cannot sleep properly.

The hidden meaning is that – you’re not poor when you don’t have money, you’re really poor when you don’t know the intent behind having the money or wealth. Hence you have to understand why you want to have the money – and you’ll start attracting everything you need for that goal to be achieved.

खान नपाएर थोरै मान्छे मर्छन,
खान नजानेर धेरै मर्छन ।

Meaning:

Few people die with the scarcity of food, more people die with the lack of knowledge to eat food.

The hidden meaning is that when we don’t utilize the talent that lies within us, our life will be meaningless. Our life will destroy when we don’t develop ourselves. Because everything we need is out there somewhere – all we need to do is search for it. “There is food in the world, but we need to learn the art of eating to survive”

सम्पत्ति नभएर गरीब भाईदैन, भएको सम्पत्ति नचिनेर गरीब भईन्छ।

Meaning:

We don’t get poor because of the lack of riches, we get poor because we don’t see the riches within us.

More than 67% of the billionaires in this world are self made – which means that they started out with nothing and became extremely wealthy. How’s it even possible? That’s the question getting into our mind right now. This is all because wealthy people don’t believe in finding resources – they believe in being resourceful.

When you are resourceful, having resources is inevitable.

Dr Yogi Vikashananda - Riches, Wealth

असफलता झेल्ने आँट नभएकाहरू सफलताका हकदार हुनै सक्दैनन् ।

Meaning:

Those who can’t withstand failure do not deserve the success.

Go and read the biographies of the successful people – especially of the ones who started out like us. You’ll find out that they had ups and downs in their life. At some point, they were failures – some people were at the verge of quitting everything. However, they persevere and had faith within themselves.

In fact, this particular quality will make you deserve your success.

सबथोक पाएर दुःखी हुनुभन्दा सबैथोक गुमाएर सुखी हुनु महान् कुरा हो ।

Meaning:

It’s better to be happy by loosing everything rather than be sad by gaining everything.

At the end, we are looking for happiness – that’s what spirituality is about. Sometimes, you are so much prone to our achievements in our life that we forget ourselves along the way – our purpose; our true self.

Hence, Dr. Yogi Vikashananda claims that it’s better to get nothing and be happy if that’s the end goal of every souls. Remember that if you choose to do something in your life, do it with all the dedication. On the contrary, if you choose to do nothing – keep on doing nothing throughout your life – that’s how most of the sages and yogis are born.

सुख खोज्नु पर्दैन, दु:खको सदुपयोग गरे पुग्छ ।

Meaning:

Don’t seek happiness, try to utilize the sorrow.

Manokranti movement is about utilizing the negative aspects of our life. n our life, we are prone to both the positive and negative situations. Nevertheless, the kind of impact it will have on us completely depends on how we respond to both the situations.

Remember, don’t be reactive – be PROACTIVE.

Respond to the situations and not react – because that’s what will make you successful.

In Conclusion,

I’ve always believed that motivation always comes from within.

We don’t need motivation to breathe, do we?

In fact, when we live the life with purpose, then motivation is not something that we should search outside. It’s always there, it’s there helping us with the every breath that we inhale. Every moment of our life is pregnant with the other moment.

… this creates the ripple effect.

Whatever action you take will result in the other action. Hence, it becomes the chain of action. The best part is – one positive action will lead to the other positive action.

Today is the day.

Right now is the moment. Let’s start thinking positive and taking actions affirmative to our purpose. And the motivation will follow.

Creative Visualization – How to Make Law of Attraction Work for you?

Creative Visualization – An interesting topic, right?

Let’s stop for a moment in life and imagine the moments when you achieved something. How did you feel in those situations? Did you feel low or worried?

Or did you feel happy and rejuvenated? Of course, you should have felt energetic, happy and grateful. In fact, that’s the reason you achieved those goals. Knowingly or unknowingly, you visualized yourself being in the situation.

That’s creative visualization.

Creative Visualization is being in the moment that you want to be. It is about being the person you want to be.Because here’s the secret:

Everything you want to possess, you already possess that.

It’s just that you need to realize the person within who already possesses that abundance.

How Creative Visualization Works?

Creative Visualization in in-fact working every moment for us.We have yet to realize it.Most people confuse the topic.Visualization is an art of creating pictures in your mind. When we do that, we begin to be in tune with those vibrations.Everything is a vibration in this world.Every objects, thoughts, action…….. – These all have some kind of vibrations associated with it.Thinking is one of the highest forms of vibrations. As one of the sayings goes:

What you put out is what you get.

What you visualize is what you receive.

Steps to Begin Creative Visualization – How to do it?

Here are a few steps that help you get the most out of your creative visualization meditation.Remember that creative visualization is not merely a science. As with every form of meditation, it’s an art.An Art of Manifestation.Everyone has their own techniques that work best for them.As Steve Jobs said – “Keep Looking and Don’t Settle”. That’s particularly important here.Keep practicing until you find a creative visualization technique that works fine for you.

1. Relax and Tune into the Energy

The first step is to relax.Might seem simple. Yet it is the most important. You only communicate with your subconscious mind when you relax. When you relax, your state of the mind changes from beta to alpha (or conscious to subconscious). This way, you begin to realize the peace within your mind and begin to tune into the infinite energy. How?It’s all in the BREATH.As simple as that.Just breath in, breath out. A long breath in, long breath out.Don’t force yourself.Just be in the flow and let your breath help you in the process.

2. Gratitude and Appreciate everything

Be grateful for everything.Gratitude is powerful. When you start appreciating everything in this universe, you start activating the law of attraction for you. Why?Gratitude is one of the highest forms of vibrations.Since the law of vibration is the foundation for the law of attraction, soon gratitude will be a key to happiness in your life.Gratitude is important, not just for the manifestation.Gratitude attracts more gratitude. This step helps change your state into a more pure and calm state of the mind, free of distractions.

3. Clear picture – Imagination

Clarity is power. When you are clear on your goals and dreams, half the work is already done. Most of the people don’t know what they want to do in life.Don’t worry if don’t.The clear picture of what you want comes with practice. This is probably the most important step. It’s where the magic of creative visualization start to come into your life.

4. Make it a Habit

Make Creative Visualization a “HABIT”.It’s not that you visualize one thing and keep on visualize that for months to get that. And most likely, you don’t just want 1 thing in life, you want many.Everyone does. So, let’s make creative visualization a habit and not a one-time meditation. This way we assure ourselves to create a life of profound happiness and joy.

7 Layers of Existence

Imagine that you are in a room filled with the people where you are reading a book. Well, what’s the proof that you exist? Most of you might think that it’s because of your physical body, right?

And, indeed, you are true.

However, that’s just the first level of how the other person feels your presence. There are other layers – hidden layers through which people notice or let’s say feel your existence.

Here are those 7 layers of existence:

  • Physical Body
  • Breath
  • Mind
  • Intellect
  • Memory
  • Ego
  • Spirit

First layer is simple – the physical body. Whenever I move my body or she speaks to you or he shakes his hand, you notice them, don’t you? All this is because of the physical presence of the body. This level of existence where we spend most of our time.

Second is Breath. Breath is the thread that connects our mind with the body. Let’s take an analogy – if our mind is like the kite and the body is the spinner, then the thread that links both of them is the breath.

Third is the Mind. Without mind, there’s no existence, at least there’s no existence for us. Because it’s the mind which creates the experience in our life. It’s the mind which brings us the visualizations of the past and drags us towards future aspirations. In fact, the mind is the existence for most of us.

Fourth is the Intellect.

Fifth is the Memory.

Sixth is the Ego.

Seventh is the Spirit. Spirit is the highest form of vibration. Spirit is me, in a true sense. SPIRIT is the eternal form of energy which has chosen to reside in this particular body for a certain period of time. It’s the highest layer of existence.

How to Play Futsal – A Quick Guide (for Beginners)

Futsal is the fastest growing sports in the world. Also known as 5-a-side, it has grown in popularity among youths and particularly in cities (where there are less open areas)

Also known as 5-a-side, it has grown in popularity among youths and particularly in cities (where there are less open areas)

What is Futsal and How is it Played?

Futsal is a football game played between 5 players on each side.Futsal was developed in Brazil somewhere between 1930s and 1940s.

The word “futsal” is derived from the portuguese word – “futebol de salao”, which basically means room football. Since then, futsal has grown to be an international sports and even has a world cup competition of it’s own.Pretty Interesting, right? While football is played on an open ground, futsal is played on a room-like area.

The game is played on a hard court surface, with boundaries that almost resembles a basketball court. The pitch is filled with the grass-like surface, also known as futsal turf grass.📷

There are 5 players inside the pitch- with each having one of 4 roles – Goalkeeper, Pivot, Wing and Fixo (defender).GoalkeeperThe only player who may use his hand to pass and stop the ball. He cannot touch with his hands outside the D-area.Fixo (Defender)Generally one person plays as a fixo – a defender in futsal.Wing Wings, both left and right play wide and are crucial for attacks and scoring.Target / PivotPivot is like a striker – an important role to build up attack in 5-a-side.

Basic Futsal Rules

Although most of the rules like handball are similar to the 11-side soccer, there are few rules that differentiate the futsal from regular football. Here are few of those:

  • No Offside
  • Unlimited Substitutions
  • Play with a size 4 ball (which bounce less)
  • 5 players per team
  • Kick the ball in instead of throws
  • Substitute the sent off players after 2 minutes

“An introductory video to the rules of futsal”A penalty is awarded to the opponents if a player (except goalkeeper) touches the ball with his hands.Or, commit a foul.Goalkeeper has 4 seconds to play the ball and pass it to teammates after he catches with his hands.

Tips for Better Play

Although each player has his role, their position should not be fixed in futsal. As the pitch is small and gameplay is fast, players often rotate their position to build up attacks. Here are few tips and advice I have, which will help you play like a pro even if you’re a beginner:

  • Play fast. Don’t hold ball for long.
  • Widen up the play through wings to open up the pitch.
  • Pass the ball back often, when in a tight area.
  • Control the ball with a tap – this way there’s less chance you lose control.
  • Fall back often to help your teammates.

Here is a video that explains basic futsal strategy, which includes diamond formation:“Basic Futsal Strategy”Diamond formation is the most preferred formation in 5-a-side game.As the player rotate, they form a shape like a diamond, which not only opens up the field but also build-up attacks.Every one in the team has to be ready to shoot. In futsal, players shoot often and your team has to be ready to both shoot and then defend, when others shoot.Goalkeepers should always be active throughout the game.
